MPEDA Strengthens India-China Seafood Trade Relations at CFSE 2024

October 2024

The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) recently participated in the 28th China Fisheries and Seafood Expo (CFSE 2024), held from October 30 to November 1, 2024, at the Qingdao World Expo City in Qingdao, China. As India’s apex body for marine products development and exports, MPEDA’s presence at Asia’s largest seafood trade event underscored our commitment to expanding India’s seafood export footprint in the Chinese market.

Expanding Horizons at CFSE 2024

The three-day expo provided an invaluable platform for MPEDA to showcase India’s diverse marine product portfolio to over 40,000 visitors from more than 100 countries. Our delegation engaged with key Chinese importers, distributors, and retail chains, highlighting India’s capabilities in sustainable aquaculture practices and quality control measures that meet international standards.

India Pavilion: Showcasing Excellence with Leading Exporters

MPEDA’s India Pavilion featured carefully selected exporters representing various seafood categories including frozen shrimp, fish, cephalopods, and value-added products. The pavilion proudly hosted prominent Indian seafood companies including:

  • West Coast Fine Foods (India) Private Limited

These companies showcased India’s premium offerings, with visitors showing particular interest in black tiger shrimp, Vannamei shrimp, and sustainably harvested marine fishes.

The pavilion highlighted MPEDA’s various initiatives including:

  • Sustainable aquaculture certification programs
  • Traceability systems for export consignments
  • Quality control measures implemented across the supply chain
  • Innovative value-added seafood products from India

Strengthening Bilateral Trade

With China being one of the significant markets for Indian seafood exports, MPEDA’s representatives conducted several business-to-business meetings during the expo. These interactions focused on addressing technical barriers to trade and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in seafood processing and value addition.

“Our participation in CFSE 2024 reaffirms MPEDA’s commitment to fostering stronger trade relations with China and exploring new avenues for Indian seafood products in this critical market,” said the MPEDA Chairperson. “The positive response from Chinese buyers to our quality standards and sustainable practices signals promising growth potential.”

Looking Ahead

Following the successful participation at CFSE 2024, MPEDA plans to organize follow-up buyer-seller meets in key Chinese cities to further capitalize on the connections established during the expo.

The China Fisheries and Seafood Expo continues to be an essential platform for MPEDA’s market development efforts in the Asia-Pacific region, and we look forward to expanded participation in future editions.
