Shrimpy, our mascot, packs a powerful punch. Perhaps its because he’s partial to protein. Shrimpy travelled across oceans to put across a message regarding seafood safety. Being a shrimp, he naturally put it across very shrimply, but it did make a lot of waves. Shrimpy was hatched with a purpose. Indian seafood is popular globally. However, the export performance is dependent on meeting the strict quality parameters set by the importing countries. Fortunately, Indian seafood companies do meet the required norms. But to maintain our premier position, the message regarding quality control does need to be reinforced. This is where Shrimpy swims in. His task was to hammer in the message regarding safety. Not easy for somebody his size, but as stated earlier, Shrimpy does have a protein-packed power punch.
But Shrimpy did face rough seas in the initial days. With the pandemic in full swing, the world was cautious in its dealings. Safety precautions were on everybody’s mind. Nobody was willing to take the risk of dealing outside their own bubbles. But, they say when the going gets tough, the tough get going. It was also rather fortuitous that Shrimpy has a tough shell!
He rose to the challenge. He travelled through docks, harbours, factories and outlets. He talked, taught and demonstrated the safety measures that ought to be taken in pandemic times.
He did it with panache, belying his shrimp status. And he was a whale of a success.
The COVID-safety message was well-received and well appreciated. The statistics indicate that the Indian seafood export sector continued to have the confidence of international importers during the COVID crisis. So it’s only fitting that Shrimpy takes a giant bow for his truly impressive debut performance.
